I sit and I think about these situations that seem to unfold like a never-ending cycle of violence that plagues the schools of young minds all around the country nowadays. I see these patterns start to immerge. We have seen these individuals time and time again. Columbine high School was the start I feel where the public eye grabbed hold. Virginia Tech University saw another explosion of Media coverage. Then you had to sadly see it again with Sandy Hook Elementary. And unfortunately, another tragic time with the Parkland Shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School. This has almost become a way for these sick individuals to grab an ounce of what THEY would probably call fame, MOST, Infamy…
It’s getting hard to wrap my head around the timeline that keeps changing and changing as the details unfold as the days move forward after this terrible situation. We see that Ramos allegedly fired his Weapon upon Two individuals coming out of a Funeral Home. Per Victor Escalon, regional director for the Texas Department of Public Safety. Talking to the AP. They now say that Officers did not engage the suspect until 12 minutes after the Crash with his Truck had taken place. By this time Ramos had already made his way into the school, into a classroom, where he began to take the lives of the Teacher and Children inside. The Police then waited 4 minutes after arriving to pursue the suspect inside the building. They were then Fired upon by Ramos during their approach, driving them back to get cover.
The big talk of this SCHOOL RESOURSE OFFICER that was allegedly on scene when the suspect crashed the truck. Stories at first pointed to this person being the first Officer to engage with Ramos. Allowing him to just waltz right into the school and begin murdering children. Standing down for what some say was a Full Hour before anything was done. This was said to be false as we see that an Anonymous LEO who was not allowed to speak upon the matter but chose to anyways. Investigators have concluded that the school officer was not in a position to act, leaving him unable to confront the shooter before he entered the building.
I question if reports are true that the grandmother that Ramos shot before taking off to the school, called Police and Medical. ultimately surviving the attack. Why on earth were Police Dispatchers not calling Schools in the Area to advise them of a shooter on the loose. To Go on Lockdown Immediately. Some would argue because Ramos was only less than a Mile away from the school, there would be no time.
The Media coverage of this situation also gives me a bit of anxiety for the future of our Children. I myself have a One Year Old. Not old enough for school just yet, but these days will come when we must enroll. My worst fear is that, This situation being blown so aggressively in our faces by the media and the amount of coverage of this guys name is appalling. We should not say his name. Show his face. Give him any acknowledgement, other than being a sick twisted individual. To give them the CAMERA TIME as we would some say. Give these people that have mental disorders and thoughts of harming others. The platform to do it in a sense. We cannot expect this to magically go away. Because as a society. You and i can see this has only grown to manifest itself into something bigger than anything we would think.
It has come to light that Ramos was a troubled soul. Seen taking selfies with weapons. Randomly tagging a person on Instagram a photo of guns claiming he’s “Got a lil secret” in a reply. The signs were there. But how do we show them and expect them to be taken seriously. And if they are, what does that mean? what does that look like? So do we start to spread Red Flag laws against people that Post things that may or may not look or be perceived as something bad to come? How do we judge that? I ask this because I genuinely don’t see this as ending anytime soon. I sadly sit here and type this as my kids sleep and I think the worst has yet to come. I feel like some sick induvial out there will see this and think to themselves that they can top this. Or do one better. And THAT Ladies and Gentlemen, absolutely terrifies me to death. No parent should worry about their child possibly being Murdered whilst learning about Math and Science. But that’s the harsh and grim reality we find ourselves in today folks. So where do we go from here? Does it only get worse?
